Beliefs
1. Grace Alone: God cares for His creation and especially for humans, even though we sin, rebel against Him, and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His only Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly. Sinners are saved only by God’s grace, in spite of - not because of - their own thoughts, words, and deeds. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved…” (Ephesians 2:4-5)
2. Faith Alone: Our Lord Jesus suffers and dies as the substitute for all people throughout all time. By His blood, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for all who believe. This “Good News” is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and all who hear it and believe have the eternal life it offers. This Christian faith apprehends and takes hold of the grace which Christ wins for us on the cross and delivers it to God’s people in the forgiveness of sins and by reconciling them with God the Father. “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2)
3. Scripture Alone: The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh (John 1:14). It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine and life. Holy Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching and correction (2 Timothy 3:16), and as such everything it is the only source for everything that we believe, preach, and teach. “For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” (Hebrews 4:12-13)
4. Lutheran Confessions: We are a part of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and believe that an accurate understanding of the Scripture and the Christian faith is given in the Lutheran Confessions, which are contained in the Book of Concord. As such, we regularly make confessions of faith, using the words of the three ecumenical creeds: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. A basic summary of Lutheran/Christian belief in contained in this confession that:
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
